Geopark Floor: 1st Floor
This diorama accurately reproduces the charms of the Geopark. Here you will find models depicting the city in miniaturized form and dioramas reproducing its key features in an intuitive manner.
San’in Kaigan Geopark climate
The San’in area has considerable rain and snowfall, so much so that it would be no exaggeration to say that you can leave behind many things, but never an umbrella. Seasonal winds coming from the northwest off of Siberia lead to heavy snowfall, with the mountainous regions receiving 1m or more in precipitation. This is owed to the fact that seasonal winds encompassing water vapor produced from the warm Tsushima currents that flow on the surface of the Sea of Japan intersect with the mountains and rise upwards, leading to snowfall. This climate has contributed in major ways to the lifestyle of locals.
At the same time, cold water unique to the Sea of Japan can be found deep at its bottom. The coexistence of this unique Sea of Japan water and the Tsushima currents produce an aquatic habitat in which both sea creatures like crabs, which reside in cold water, and amberjack, which reside in warm water, can be found.

Kami-cho geographical models
In order to make the topology of the area easier to understand, these topographic models exaggerate the altitude. These models plot various geo spots and major facilities around the area.
They give a three-dimensional, topographical view of the features of Kami-cho, like the rias coastlines found here.
Geo dioramas
Topological dioramas showcasing the entirety of Kami-cho, from the top of the mountains down to the seafloor, are used to describe its unique form, lifestyle, and culture. These dioramas also feature miniature animals and other aspects of life.
The unique undulating formations and topography of the San’in Kaigan Geopark area have produced a special local culture, with various signature elements of history, culture, industry, tourism, and cuisine to be found.
